André Fuqua (b. 1993, St. Louis, MO) is a multidisciplinary visual artist and design engineer whose work spans materials science, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and public art. His research based arts practice is deeply influenced by his experiences with migration, exploring themes of identity, visibility, and power. Drawing on land history, architecture, cultural objects, and materials studies, Fuqua creates work that investigates philosophies of erasure and exposure within the built environment.

Fuqua’s work has been exhibited in galleries and institutions throughout the US including Ivester Contemporary (Austin, TX), the Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans (New Orleans, LA), GrayDUCK Gallery (Austin, TX), Northern-Southern (Austin, TX), and the Museum of Science and Industry (Chicago, IL). He has given presentations at St. Louis Art Museum, Washington University in St. Louis, and the California Institute of Technology. Fuqua is a 2023 - 24 Corridor Construction Public Artist for the City of Austin, a three-time recipient of the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis Artist Support Grant, and a 2021 recipient of The Luminary’s Future Funds award. He holds a BS and MS in civil engineering from Columbia University (2015, 2018) and studied painting and sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2016). He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Texas at Austin. Fuqua lives and works between Austin, TX and St. Louis, MO
